The Ethics Dilemma

Postby Bradly T. » Thu Mar 22, 2012 9:40 am

Good perspective. There simply is no business model or regulatory system that prevents conflicts of interest. It is entirely appropriate to identify and discuss all the many forms such conflicts can take and provide professionals the opportunity to influence, if not determine, the appropriate safe-guards we should all self-impose and adopt to serve our profession, our clients, and our community at large.

I especially liked the closing....if you don't think you have any conflicts of interest because of your model, your compensation, or your regulatory "obligation", well, you're the most dangerous of all. The more sanctimonious you are, the more guilty generally. Good article. More please. We're pretty hard on ourselves really. Dentistry is just the tip of the old professional proverbial ice berg. How ethical are doctors? You mean mine or the scrip pushers and celebrity whores? Lawyers? Yeah, right. Politicians? HA! Are we to be sainted to provide access to markets when the exchanges and banks and regulators and legislators and markets themselves are run by greedy, selfish, lying thieves?? Don't mean to dismiss our efforts to improve ourselves and our value but the world in which we live and operate is not yet a world where ethics outweigh profits with very many including the educated, the powerful, the wealthy, or the professional. But hope springs eternal....I just do my best in my little corner to serve those who depend on me to do so. I know most of my fellow/sister professional practitioners aspire to do the same.
