Financial Web Address ?? Help
MAXalan,
My friend got www.RetirementPlanningSpecialist.com from www.InstantTRUST.com
He paid a fair price for it, buy it gets him a number one spot on google rankings.
If you do get a web address, do not get any with hypens in it. You can not market those on the radio. Also avoid numbers, and only get a dot com.
Good Luck

Go to whois and findout who the owner of the domain is. The whois data will include contact info.
From the contact info either send them an email or call them with an offer.

Financial Web Address ?? Help
An important thing to keep in mind is that your brand identity governs all your collateral design, including website and URL. You can build build a great gun for hunting elephants or hunting pheasants, but using the wrong gun on either gets you the same results: no dinner. Choosing a great-sounding URL that doesn't square with the rest of your brand identity (composed of both your name *and* experience) can confuse your market. Be sure to try stretching and breaking your brand identity to see how robust it is when expressed in other media. If it can stand up to the that kind of rigor, then you have a great brand and now it is time to figure out the best URL.

Always choose a .com address.
You can check for availability at www.GoDaddy.com (top of page) They cost under $10 each so if something is available, don't delay. You can always give it back.
One thing I have my clients do if LLC or INC is on their website is add that to the URL. If it's not on the card, forget that idea.
You can also see about your own name. Again, only use what's on your business card.
Keep it memorable.
One thing I didn't do early on, is get my URL in it's abbreviated format. Now I'm sorry cause my company name is a LONG URL! and on my business card I can't fit my website name and my email address :) So I put my email.

A good trick is to add the 2-digit state abbreviation to the domain name you wanted. For example, if you wanted the domain RetirementSpecialist.com but it's already taken, and assuming you live in, say, New York, try either NYRetirementSpecialist.com or RetirementSpecialistNY.com.

MaxAlan,
Registering a domain name is quite easy. However, you need to take into consideration some factors.
1. Am I going after branding my corporate identity, ie JohnSmithInc.com?
2. Do I want to target certain market because of the company's expertise, RetirementPlanners.com
3. Am I after keyword specific search items that people are searching on the internet, HelpWithLongTermCare.com
My suggestion is to check the owner of the domain name that you are particularly interested but seems to be in the ownership of someone just holding the domain name. If that's the case, you may have to invest a little bit for the name.
For most planners with practice, branding seems to be the prevalent choice. But for search engine optimization, it's keyword based domains that generally prevail.
You can have strategies for internet marketing purpose even though the domain name is not keyword centric. It will just take time.

Here is a tool to see what domain main names have sold for in the past. It does not capture every domain sold, i.e. not sold thru and exchange, or a private transaction.
http://dnsaleprice.com/
In the Keyword box, put "Retirement" and all the web address that contain the word "Retirement" and have sold, are listed.

There are also domain brokers on the web. They will act as an intermediary between you and the current domain holder.
And there are lots of ways to name your domain, and choose a name that isn't currently used.
