The intent of the ads have merit. The message is a really good one. Long over due. The CFP designation is one way to measure a potential candidate.
The Fiduciary issue is still a mess and will remain so.
The acceptance of wire house CFP's as a fiduciary is not realistic at all. Those that work within that business model have signed an employment agreement that designates that they will comply with firm offerings and disciplines. The wire houses are not and will not comply with a fiduciary stance. So, much hypocrisy in this business.
You either represent the client's best interests or not. If you do, you have no problem with a strong fiduciary stance. Advisers in the wire house environment, if they are serious would start their own independent firms. Otherwise, their position is one that is frivolous and dishonest. You can't have it both ways.
