A 25-year veteran of television news, Cox has been at KMOV-TV since 1993, working as a reporter and as the co-anchor of the morning news show. Cox has won awards from the Missouri Broadcasters Association and the Associated Press; he also received eight regional Emmy nominations, winning in 2006 and 2008 for Excellence in Television News.
Why is he leaving to start a new career with Edward Jones? “I recently signed a new two-year contract,” he revealed in response to a query from On Wall Street, “but the question for me was where will television news be 15 or 20 years from now? That is a big debate even among news veterans.”
Apparently, financial services seems more appealing.
“I enjoy interviewing people and learning from them,” said Cox, “and bringing people information they need. I made the decision to look for a job where my skill set would provide added value, and Edward Jones offered me a tremendous opportunity to become a financial advisor. Just like developing new sources, it’s a job that involves meeting new people and building relationships, with the added benefit of truly being able to have a positive impact on their lives.”
As for his choice of firm to launch a new career, Cox is familiar with Edward Jones because his wife Michelle has done freelance writing in marketing and communications for that firm for nearly 17 years. “It’s a great company to work for,” he said, “as evidenced by the continued top rankings on Fortune Magazine’s 100 best companies list each year. I'm thankful for the opportunity, and look forward to building a successful second career.”
