Charles E. Haldeman, Jr., resigns today as chairman of Putnam Investment Management, LLC, president of the Putnam Funds and member of the Board of Trustees of the Putnam Funds, according to a company announcement. Putnam will eliminate the chairman position.
Robert L. Reynolds, president and chief executive officer of Putnam Investments and a trustee of Putnam Funds, replaces Haldeman as president.
“Ed helped to create a strong base from which we plan to grow this company in the coming years,” said R. Jeffrey Orr, president and chief executive officer of Power Financial Corp., the Montreal-based company that owns a stake in Putnam Investments.
After New York-based Marsh & McLennan Cos. agreed to sell Putnam to Power Financial in 2007, Haldeman agreed to stay on until June 2008, but he wound up staying a year longer. Haldeman joined Putnam in 2002 from investment firm Cook & Bieler. He was named chairman of Putnam Investment Management in July 2008. “I committed to stay at Putnam until June 30, 2008,” Haldeman said. “This is a good time for me to advance to the next stage of my career.”
