Merrill Lynch lured away an advisor with 14 years of industry experience from Credit Suisse, a spokeswoman said.

Advisor David Sterling joined Merrill's office in Stamford, Conn., where he reports to Market Executive Katie Flaherty.

In a statement Flaherty said that Sterling's experience working with high-net-worth clients and his background in commercial banking made him a good fit for Merrill.

Sterling started his career in 2001 at Lehman Brothers, according to BrokerCheck records. He moved to Credit Suisse in 2008.

Prior to his advisory career, he worked at Bank of the West in San Francisco, according to Merrill.

His move comes on the heels of reports that Credit Suisse may sell its U.S. private bank.
