Not content with its 18,500 advisors, the new joint venture Morgan Stanley Smith Barney has scooped up some big producers from UBS.
One industry recruiter said the newly combined firm was targeting UBS advisors. One reason: they’re not locked in with retention packages, unlike the larger-producing Merrill Lynch advisors, the recruiter said.
William Arata, Daniel Rozario, Aram Khavari and Robin Coombs joined MSSB’s office in Bangor, Maine. In the past 12 months at UBS, the team oversaw $371 million in client assets and generated $2.8 million in fees and commissions. Arata spent almost 30 years at UBS, according to FINRA filings.
Jane Rojas joined the firm’s branch in Tucson, Ariz. She previously generated $1.2 million on client assets of $227 million. In Cincinnati, the $2.9 million team of Brian Albach, Stephen Dauer and Gregory Wells also jumped from UBS to MSSB.
Meanwhile, Ricardo Nazario joined MSSB’s office in Houston. He previously generated over $2 million on client assets of $226 million.
The firm also hired a team from Merrill Lynch in Billings, Mont. William Claridge and Patrick Lewis previously generated $1.4 million on client assets of $215 million.
