Hedge fund firm Tiger Management LLC has tapped the expertise of a former Goldman Sachs executive to help run its operations, an announcement said Thursday.

John Townsend has been named managing partner and chief operating officer, replacing Aaron Stern at the New York-based shop. Additionally, Tiger Management has named Alex Robertson a managing partner as well. The firm said that Stern would hold a senior advisor position.

While at Goldman Sachs, Townsend was a general partner and managing director, the announcement noted. He was also head of the South region, co-head of leveraged finance and a member of the Goldman Sach’s commitments committees. Before retiring from the firm in 2002, he was an advisory director. Townsend currently serves as a senior advisor to private equity firm Stone Point Capital.

Robertson joined Tiger Management in November 2008 and serves on the management commitment, according to the statement. He is responsible for the “development of emerging managers with in the organization, strategic business development and defining the Tiger Brand reflected in its seeds.”

Julian Robertson, chairman of the firm said, “....I am confident that working with John and Alex, we can take Tiger to new heights.”
